Zytronic Projected Capacitive Touch Screen for rear-glass touch sensing

PCT Technology (Projected Capacitive Touch) is the key to the success of Zytronic touch sceens in various applications.

This technology consists of a metallic micro-grid coupled to a glass (which can be also vandalproof) that generates an electromagnetic field. This uniform field is altered by the presence of a finger, and the controller recognizes the X/Y position of the point of maximum alteration, and there is "the touch is positioned".

The sensitivity of the electro magnetic field is such that it can recognize a touch even behind a glass (or plexiglass) very thick, coupled in front of the touch screen.

This fact allows to engineer easy vandal proof & outdoor solutions: the final system, definitely, will be a "sandwich" made of: Glass (possibly thick) + touch + LCD screen.

You can place the touch also behind a glass 10mm thick and even thicker.

Of course, nothing prevents you to use the Zytronic touch screen directly and without any protective glass: for example, in place of a resistive touch or of a SAW (surface acoustic waves) touch. The Zytronic touch, in this cases, has the following advantages compared to other technologies:

  • it's transparent (the micro-grid is invisible when the display is turned on, and does not diminish the transparency of the glass)
  • It's scratch resistant much more than a resistive touch and will not ruin, and can be cleaned easily
  • It can be glued to the system's panel to provide IP65 or even IP66 and IP67 on the front. Which is possible with a resistive touch (which is more delicate) but it's impossible with a SAW touch (which can not be sealed)
  • It may already be supplied coupled to a vandal-proof thick glass, for supersafe high-end applications (this option is very convenient for large quantities)

CJB uses various formats of Zytronic touch screens in many different applications (for the most part Vandal-proof and outdoor) where this choice is a must. So we are your ideal partner to help you achieve success with your application with Zytronic;s products.

CJB has in place a partnership agreement with Zytronic through the authorized distributor for Italy, so we can provide the Zytronic products with the best economic conditions in absolute and without any additional costs.

Available Touch Types

There are 3 available Zytronic touch versions: ZyPOS, Zybrid and ZyTouch.

ZYPOS
Mono-Layer glass PCT touch-screen; sizes from 7"to 20".
The ZyPOS product is the entry-level solution, since its manufacturing is quite simple.
The ZyPOS is made of:

  • A single layer glass with bonded polyester sheet on rear side
  • sensor matrix (metal grid) placed between glass and polyester
  • Controller is off-glass, that is it's external. Connected to the glass through a flat cable.
  • Electronic controller can connect to PC via USB or RS232

The manufacturing technology employed for ZYPOS® is unique to Zytronic and offers significant benefits to traditional users of resistive, capacitive and SAW technologies. Unlike other touch technologies, the active component of ZYPOS® is embedded for protection, providing a true safety laminated pure glass-fronted construction.
Not only does this produce a highly dependable, low-maintenance and durable system, it also offers unrivalled protection against a wide range of physical, mechanical and chemical abuse, providing the cost effective solution for the most demanding of applications such as POS, gaming and In-vehicle equipment.

Summary of Benefits:

  • Laminated safety glass fronted construction.
  • Excellent readability - light transmission of up to 91% through a standard sensor.
  • Accuracy - < ~1mm on 10.4” to 17.1” sized units.
  • Response time – < 20ms.
  • Stability – no drift, therefore no recalibration is required.
  • Pointing device – works with gloved and ungloved finger.
  • Environments – functionality is unaffected by surface contaminants.
  • Resistance to contamination – unaffected by harsh cleaning fluids and other noxious substances.
  • Operating temperature – ranges from –20ºC to > +60ºC.
  • Flying tail and separate controller for ease of installation.
  • Supports serial RS232 or USBv1.1, compatible with USBv2.0.
  • Operating systems supported – Windows® 9X, NT, ME, 2000, XP, XPe, Vista, Windows® 7 (single and dual touch) and Linux.
  • Output protocol available to allow users to customise own drivers.
  • The ideal solution for all large format touch screen applications.

ZYBRID®
Mono-Layer glass PCT touch-screen; sizes from 7"to 20", FULLY CUSTOMIZABLE.

The ZyBRID product is the mid-level solution, since its manufacturing is mid-way between ZyPOS and ZyTouch.
The ZyBRID is made of:

  • A single layer glass with bonded polyester sheet on rear side, fully customizable as dimansion and layout
  • sensor matrix (metal grid) placed between glass and polyester
  • Controller is off-glass, that is it's external. Connected to the glass through a flat cable.
  • Electronic controller can connect to PC via USB or RS232

ZYBRID® touch sensors are the fully customisable version of ZYPOS®. They are based on Zytronic’s internationally award-winning projected capacitive technology (PCT™). The manufacturing technology employed for ZYBRID® is unique to Zytronic and offers significant benefits to traditional users of resistive, capacitive and SAW technologies.
Unlike other touch technologies, the active component of ZYBRID® is embedded for protection, providing a true safety laminated pure glass fronted construction.
Not only does this produce a highly dependable, low-maintenance and durable system, it also offers unrivalled protection against a wide range of physical, mechanical and chemical abuse, providing the cost effective and customisable solution for the most demanding of applications such as POS, gaming and In-vehicle equipment.

Summary of Benefits:

  • Option of either on-glass or off-glass mounted controller.
  • Many customisable options available, e.g. screen printed borders, anti-reflective rear surface, etc.
  • Increased reliability and life expectancy.
  • A chemical, physical and mechanical inert glass front.
  • An embedded sensing construction that is highly durable, vandal- and scratch-resistant.
  • Drift-free operation - no recalibration required.
  • Fast and accurate response time.
  • Sealable designs that will comply with NEMA 4, 12 and IP 67 standards.
  • Excellent light transmission without optical coating enhancements.
  • Output protocol compatibility for a variety of operating systems.
  • Sensor thickness up to about 6mm.

Zytouch
Rear Projected Capacitive touch screen with sizes from 5" to 82", with multi-layer glass and vandal-proof features for high-end outdoor and public-access applications.
This solution is made of:

  • one multi layer glass made at least by two bonded glasses
  • in between there is the sensor matrix
  • electronic controller can be either on glass (i.e.: bonded with side glass) or external (with flat cable connection)
  • controller interface: RS232 or USB

This manufacturing technology is unique to Zytronic and offers significant benefits to electronic display manufacturers. The touch-sensing layer consists of an array of microfine wires that are not visible on a powered display.
Unlike other touch sensors using a capacitive system where the sensing medium is on the surface of the touch panel, the active component of the ZYTOUCH® sensor is embedded for protection – and can be up to 20mm from the touch surface.
Not only does this technology produce a highly dependable, low-maintenance system, it also offers unrivalled protection against a wide range of physical threats – a cost effective solution for the most demanding touch sensor applications.

Summary of Benefits:

  • Excellent readability - light transmission of up to 91% through a standard sensor.
  • Ideal for internal and external usage - a proven solution for public access areas.
  • Excellent optical clarity – the sensor can be enhanced with Zytronic’s range of optical coatings and filters.
  • Accuracy - less than +/- 1.5% of reported position.
  • Response time – < 20ms.
  • Stability – no drift, therefore no recalibration is required.
  • Pointing device – works with gloved and ungloved finger.
  • Immunity to damage – unsurpassed impact, vandal, and scratch resistance.
  • External environments – unaffected by dirt, moisture and rain.
  • Operating temperature – ranges from –35ºC to +65ºC. Sub zero operation may be enhanced by an integrated heater panel.
